Volunteering

CAEO’s Recruiting!

Interested in volunteering? We’re looking for passionate and committed individuals who are a part of or allied with the English-speaking LGBTQ community to join our diverse team who volunteer for the following programs:

  • Gay Line is a free listening service that has been serving the queer community since 1976. We actively listen to our callers' questions or problems (mainly regarding sexuality, health, orientation and diversity) without any prejudice or judgment, and help them find an answer or solution. Lines are open every night from 7pm-11pm.
  • Gay ONLine is the web extension of Gay Line that will be launching soon. The program  will offer the same listening service and resources as Gay Line.
  • SILK stands for Sexual Information Leads to Knowledge. The program's goal is to raise awareness about sexual health, orientation and diversity, and is aimed specifically at two target audiences – high school students, and seniors. Free workshops are offered in Montreal high schools (in partnership with Allies Montreal) and senior homes. Workshops are held during school hours for one hour blocks.

All volunteers are required to fulfill 2 shifts/workshops a month from a program of choice.

Why volunteer?

  • Gain job-related skills & life skills (i.e. active listening)
  • Make a difference in people's lives
  • Experience personal growth/satisfaction
  • Connect with a 'cause'
  • Be a part of something positive for the community
  • Instil a value of giving/caring
  • Have fun, meet new people, network

All volunteers receive a comprehensive initial training course for all three programs, and are also offered ongoing and continuous training and coaching. We value diversity and encourage members of traditionally underrepresented groups to volunteer.

The next training is scheduled for January 2010. An information session will be conducted in the first week of December followed by interviews. To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter along with a list of 2 references to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
